Best Chocolate Bar TEST!

Posted in My Life by todd on the May 7th, 2007

I recently purchased seven different chocolate bars (dark chocolate) in search of the ultimate dark chocolate! I purchased belgian chocolate, german chocolate, columbian chocolate, french chocolate, and chocolate from ecuador.  The percentage of Cocoa ranged from 71% to 99% and all could be easily eaten daily other than the 99% Cocoa chocolate bar.

Chocolatier Hachez est. 1890 88% Cocoa Premier Cru Edel-Bitter-Chocolate 88% Cacoa made in Germany. www.hachez.de

Valrhona Le Noir Amer 71% Cacoa Dark Bittersweet Chocolate made in France.
Lindt Excellence Ecuador 75% Cocoa Intense Dark Extra Fine made in Switzerland

New Tree Dark Chocolate Chocolate Noir Pleasure Fine Belgian Dark Chocolate 73% Cocoa Made in Belgium

Cote d’Or Degustation Brut 86% Cacao Belgian Dark Chocolate Confection Made in Belgium (distributed by Kraft Foods)

Lindt Excellence 99% Cocoa Noirissime Dark Chocolate made in France.

And the seventh dark chocolate I purchased and ate the day before I decided to write this little post… woops.

The Valrhona 71% Cacoa was my favorite with the Cote D’OR 86% Cacoa coming in number two.  The 99% Cacoa was not “eatable” you have to take small pieces and let them melt on your tounge and enjoy them slowly because if you try to eat it in pieces you will most likely get sick!!!

All of the chocolates were good in my opinion and they all will get eaten.

What chocolates do you like?

That kind of dark chocolate is too dark for me. I’m still in the 40-50% range.

Hey Kevin, you really have to work yourself up so you can adjust if not it’s like eating dry dirt.

The Hershey Dark is still very creamy and a good start if you want to get into “darker” chocolate.

valrhona 71% is a great dark chocolate with a good dark chocolate sensation. In my opinion, it isn’t too dark but it is pleasurable. I also found that Droste Pastilles dark chocolates are quite good, although they do become weird and don’t snap when broken. Hershey’s is weird when it comes to chocolate, too sweet to be a dark chocolate and isn’t too smooth either.
