Ditch the job.

Posted in My Work by todd on the April 3rd, 2007

Recently I was reading the book titled The E Myth Revisited and came upon a quote I think everyone should know of.
“If your business depends on you, you don’t own a business—you have a job.”

What you say? My business can’t depend on me? Your business CAN depend on you but it shouldn’t depend on you to the extent that you have to be there every day for it to survive.  Sure, during the first six months or a year you will most likely have to be there every day (and night most likely!!) for it to get off the ground but after that you shouldn’t develop a business that relys on you and your input every day.

Here are some ideas to take you away from the day to day requirements and also some sites that don’t require you there day to day.

SEO & Link Building

Posted in My Work by todd on the February 10th, 2007

A lot of people these days think SEO is something “magical” and that you need to pay thousands of dollars to SEO your site, NOT TRUE!
On page SEO is very important as well as a properly configured robots.txt file but what comes next is what not many people in the non-SEO world know about, and that’s link building. Most webmasters who hire someone as a SEO think they are doing something “magical” with their site or maybe they believe they have an “in” with the search engines, ha not true! (more…)

Dedicated Servers

Posted in My Work by todd on the February 8th, 2007

I’ve been in the market for another dedicated server and have been shopping the big names like rackspace, serverbeach, theplanet, softlayer, etc.

Times have changed over the last 5 years! And by change I mean prices have increased a LOT! One big change in price/options is that a secondary hard drive is now an option on most systems, and so is RAID.  Both options can tack on a total of anywhere from $50 to $100 MORE per-month!!! To prevent the need of hiring a data recovery specialist I like to get my servers with RAID 1 so if a drive fails it’s not the end of the world!  It’s also nice because when you do cPanel backup it doesn’t backup the ENTIRE drive so if the hard drive died you would have to re-install all your software and cpanel/whm too.

My other new dual woodcrest server is SO speedy I may consider another one of those but only a single CPU as I don’t need this server to be so powerful.

AzoogleAds Geo-Target Confirmed

Posted in My Work by todd on the August 24th, 2006

I spoke with my affiliate manager at AzoogleAds and it has been confirmed they are now geo-targeting “USA” offers that do not have Int. offers to OTHER somewhat related international offers. Sorry, that was kind of confusing… if you are sending international traffic to USA only offers they are now taking your international traffic and forwarding it to OTHER offers.
You can of course contact your affiliate manager and have them setup your international traffic forwarded to any offer you want. This must be done on the phone or in e-mail and is NOT an option in the control panel. (Atleast not yet)
